Graduating Summa Cum Laude with a 3.975 GPA, Gary obtained a BS degree in Criminal Justice from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee NC.  On January 1st, 2009, Gary ended a highly-decorated 34 year career in law enforcement.

When North Carolina enacted the Concealed Carry Handgun Law in 1995, Gary was one of the first Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors to become certified to teach NC concealed carry classes to civilians. With his extensive background in public safety and criminal justice, Gary is able to offer a personal insight to the laws concerning concealed carry in North Carolina. Such specialized knowledge and experience can help better prepare armed citizens for encounters with law enforcement. The more prepared citizens are, the better the experience will be for the law enforcement officer as well.

With a focus on both the “legal side” as well as the “safety side” of CCH, Gary has had outstanding success in getting the requirements of the CCH Law to the public as required. While covering the rules and regulations, Gary gives meaning and life to the technicalities by giving examples based on his personal experiences in law enforcement.

“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms … disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed one.” – Cesare Beccaria’s Essay on Crimes and Punishments (Quoted by Thomas Jefferson in his “Legal Commonplace Book.”.)

“An unarmed man can only flee from evil, and evil is not overcome by fleeing from it.” – Lt.Col. Jeff Cooper

“Democracy is when 2 wolves and a lamb vote for what to put on the dinner table; Liberty is when the lamb is well-armed.”
